Located in Namsan Park in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, Namsan Seoul Tower stands 236.7 meters tall and is a landmark and iconic tourist destination in Seoul.

Construction began in 1969 and was completed in 1975.

Originally built as a comprehensive broadcasting tower, it has now become a beloved multipurpose cultural space where visitors can enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of Seoul’s beautiful cityscape and experience various cultural activities.

The history of Namsan Seoul Tower is quite fascinating. It started as a transmission tower for TV and radio broadcasts, but from the late 1980s, it was opened to the public and became one of Seoul’s main tourist attractions.

In 2005, it underwent major renovations and was reborn as ‘N Seoul Tower’. The ‘N’ stands for Namsan, New, and Nature.

When you ascend the tower, Seoul’s beautiful landscape unfolds before your eyes. On a clear day, you can see as far as the shores of Incheon, boasting an unobstructed view.

The night view of Seoul, especially from dusk onwards, is truly fantastic. This is why many couples choose it as a romantic date spot.

Namsan Seoul Tower has evolved beyond a simple observatory to become a multipurpose cultural space offering various attractions. Inside the tower, there are various restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy a meal while taking in the magnificent view.

In particular, the revolving restaurant ‘N Grill’ offers a special experience of savoring gourmet cuisine while enjoying a panoramic view of Seoul.

Additionally, there’s a terrace famous for ‘love locks’ around the tower. This place, where couples write messages of love on padlocks and attach them, has now become an iconic spot of Namsan Seoul Tower.

Namsan Seoul Tower also hosts various festivals and events throughout the seasons. It offers diverse programs to entertain visitors, such as the cherry blossom festival in spring, outdoor concerts in summer, autumn foliage festival in fall, and illumination events in winter.

As you can see, Namsan Seoul Tower is a special place where you can see Seoul’s past, present, and future at a glance. If you’re visiting Seoul, make sure to stop by. You’ll create unforgettable memories!

5 star ratingWhite and wintry day for magical and memorable photographs On 30 December 2023 morning, our tour group proceeded to Namsan Tower via cable car for panoramic view of downtown Seoul. As it was snowing heavily, it was 'white-out' so there was no aerial view downwards at all. However, we had a fun time frolicking and playing in the snow. We thoroughly enjoyed posing for magical and memorable photographs in this beautiful white wintry scenery. We were blessed with one of the singlemost record snowfall within the day in Seoul, in multi-years. It was freezing cold so ensure you bundle up warmly, especially during winter. There are souvenir shops, cafes and beverage stalls if you badly need a cuppa hot java or tea to warm up.

5 star ratingA Mesmerizing Journey Atop the Soul of Seoul! My expedition to the dazzling heights of N Seoul Tower was nothing short of a cinematic panorama, nestling amidst the energetic pulses of Seoul. Booking through a user-friendly platform, our venture embarked with a seamless, well-directed arrival experience that instantly charmed our travel spirits. The tower, piercing through the azure skyline, offered breathtaking 360-degree vistas of the sprawling city below, each observation deck narrating a unique urban tale. Our guide, Jun, was a fountain of cultural anecdotes, binding historical tapestries with modern tales, while ensuring a friendly and engaging interaction throughout our journey. Particularly noteworthy was the Locks of Love, where countless padlocks symbolize unbreakable bonds - a true testament to the city’s romantic allure! Despite a slightly crowded ambiance, the staff managed visitor flow effectively, adhering to commendable safety and health protocols. While the culinary offerings were satisfactory, the hypnotic sunset, painting the city in a warm, golden hue, eclipsed all minor shortcomings, etching this visit indelibly into our travel memoirs. A must-visit for any Seoul wanderer!

5 star ratingFrom Love Locks to Panoramas Before heading up to the observation deck, I decided to take my time exploring the bustling plaza at its base. People were everywhere, laughing and chatting. I couldn’t resist grabbing a steaming cup of coffee from a nearby café to warm up before starting my journey. The plaza also featured the famous “love locks” area, and it was a sight to behold. Thousands upon thousands of padlocks, in every color imaginable, were attached to the fences, each one inscribed with heartfelt messages from couples symbolizing their bond. It was truly heartwarming to read some of the sweet, silly, and sometimes deeply touching notes. With a little hopeful whisper, I even added my own lock. It wasn't for romance, though, but as a quiet promise to myself to return to Seoul one day. Ascending to the observation deck was, without a doubt, the undeniable highlight of the visit. The high-speed elevator whisked me up to the very top in what felt like mere seconds, the sensation a bit like flying. And then, as the doors smoothly glided open, I was greeted by a truly jaw-dropping, breathtaking 360-degree panorama of Seoul. The view was so fantastic. The sprawling neighborhoods, the winding Han River, and distant mountains framed the city like a living postcard.

Admiring Seoul’s Panorama from the Observatory

The greatest attraction of Namsan Seoul Tower is undoubtedly the 360-degree panoramic view of Seoul. From the observatory at a height of 236m, the entire city of Seoul unfolds beneath your feet. On clear days, the view extends as far as the shores of Incheon.

The observatory features descriptions of Seoul’s major landmarks in each direction, helping visitors understand the city’s geography. You can also use the installed binoculars for a closer look at Seoul’s landscape.

The night view of Seoul, especially from dusk onwards, is truly fantastic. The twinkling lights of the city, shining like constellations among the forest of buildings, will create unforgettable memories.

There’s also joy in observing how Seoul’s appearance changes with each season and time of day. From spring blossoms to summer’s lush greenery, autumn foliage, and winter snow – capture the diverse faces of Seoul throughout the four seasons in one glance.

Attaching Love Locks

Another famous attraction of Namsan Seoul Tower is the ‘love locks’. Numerous padlocks hang on the viewing terrace around the tower, placed there by couples as a promise of love.

Writing a promise or wish with your loved one on a padlock and attaching it is believed to make that love eternal. It’s not just for couples – families and friends visit too.

Capture your precious memories with loved ones on these locks. Even if you’re alone, don’t worry. Many people write promises to themselves as well.

You can purchase locks from shops inside the tower. Choose from various shapes and colors to add your own special message.

Don’t forget to take a life-shot with the locks as a background. The sight of numerous locks with Seoul’s skyline in the background makes for a great social media photo.

Reading the love messages on other locks can also be an interesting experience. You might find yourself smiling at the sweet messages left by couples from all over the world.

Dining at the Rotating Restaurant ‘N Grill’

Another pleasure of Namsan Seoul Tower is enjoying fantastic views with delicious food. Located on the 7th floor, ‘N Grill’ is a rotating restaurant that completes one revolution every hour, allowing you to enjoy a 360-degree view of Seoul while dining.

N Grill offers modern fusion cuisine based on French cuisine. From authentic French course meals made with fresh ingredients to fusion dishes with a Korean touch, a variety of menus are available.

Various courses including lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea are offered, so you can choose according to your preference. Especially, enjoying Seoul’s night view with the dinner course creates a more romantic atmosphere than any luxury hotel restaurant.

The biggest charm of N Grill is being able to appreciate Seoul’s gradually changing scenery while dining. Visit during the day to see Seoul spread out under blue skies, or in the evening to enjoy the twinkling night view.

If you want to enjoy a romantic atmosphere with a delicious meal on a special day, we recommend ‘N Grill’. Just remember, it’s very popular so reservations are essential!

Enjoying Seasonal Festivals

Namsan Seoul Tower hosts various festivals and events each season, offering special experiences depending on when you visit.

In spring, there’s a cherry blossom festival. It’s a special time when you can enjoy Seoul’s scenery along with the cherry blossoms in full bloom on Namsan. Stroll along the cherry blossom paths around the tower to soak in the spring atmosphere.

At night, cherry blossom illuminations create a romantic ambiance.

Namsan Octagonal Pavilion, which you can reach by descending a bit from Namsan Seoul Tower, is another hidden gem in Seoul.

This beautiful pavilion, built in traditional Korean architectural style, shows a harmonious blend of Seoul’s modern appearance and tradition.

The history of the Octagonal Pavilion is quite deep. It was first built in 1925, destroyed during the Korean War, and rebuilt in 1960. The view from here is as profound as its history.

The Octagonal Pavilion is also famous as a photo spot. You can create a unique composition with traditional architecture and modern Seoul city in one frame. The sunset view of Seoul from the pavilion is especially fantastic.

Also, on weekends or holidays, traditional performances are sometimes held here. It’s an opportunity to experience Korean traditional culture while enjoying performances like samulnori or Korean classical music.

Namsan Octagonal Pavilion has a different charm from Namsan Seoul Tower. The experience of coming down from the modern tower and viewing Seoul from a traditional pavilion will surely be special. Make sure to drop by!

Riding the Cable Car

The journey to Namsan Seoul Tower itself can be a special experience. Especially if you use the cable car, you can comfortably ascend while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Namsan.

The cable car operates for about 3 minutes from the foot of Namsan to near the tower. Although it’s a short time, you can enjoy various views from Seoul’s urban landscape to Namsan’s dense forest during this time.

The view of Seoul from the cable car is a fantastic sightseeing experience in itself. Enjoy Seoul’s changing skyline as you go higher. You can have the unique experience of seeing the entire city of Seoul seemingly shrink.

Each season offers a different charm. In spring, you can see Namsan in full cherry blossom, and in autumn, Namsan dyed in fall colors. In winter, you might see Namsan covered in white snow.

Note that if you purchase a round-trip ticket, you can use it for your descent as well. However, lines can be long on weekends or holidays, so plan your time accordingly.

Media Art and Various Exhibitions – Inside Seoul

Namsan Seoul Tower
ⓒ Namsan Seoul Tower

The “Inside Seoul” exhibition at Namsan Seoul Tower is a special space where cutting-edge technology and art meet to reinterpret Seoul’s image. This exhibition is an immersive media art space that goes beyond just viewing, allowing visitors to directly experience and feel the art.

The exhibition space, covering about 660㎡ (200 pyeong), features 40 projectors casting images on the walls and floor. This vividly expresses various aspects of Seoul, including its four seasons, traditional culture, and modern appearance. The realistic visuals make you feel as if you’re standing in the heart of Seoul.

Namsan Seoul Tower
ⓒ Namsan Seoul Tower

The exhibition is divided into three main parts. ‘Seoul’s Landscape’ shows the view of Seoul from Namsan, ‘Seoul’s Daily Life’ depicts the lives of citizens, and ‘Seoul’s Future’ presents Seoul as a future city. Each section takes about 3 minutes, allowing you to enjoy the entire exhibition in about 8-10 minutes without feeling overwhelmed.

An interesting feature is that the visuals react to visitors’ movements. For example, when you walk on the flower petal images on the floor, they scatter as if blown by the wind. These interactive elements make it popular with children too.

Namsan Seoul Tower

You can also enjoy media visuals inside the elevator going up the tower. During the short ascent, a video showing a compressed day in Seoul is played, which is impressive in itself.

The “Inside Seoul” exhibition is becoming another reason to visit Namsan Seoul Tower. How about experiencing Seoul’s various aspects through this special exhibition before viewing the actual Seoul from the observatory? It will surely enrich your Seoul trip.

Walking the Namsan Circular Trail

Taking a walk along the Namsan Circular Trail around Namsan Seoul Tower is a great option. You can enjoy Seoul’s nature while walking through the lush forest trails.

The Namsan Circular Trail is about 7.5km long, typically taking 2-3 hours to complete a full circuit. However, even walking just a part of it is enough to experience the charm of Namsan.

As you walk the trail, you can feel Seoul’s nature up close. Finding such a dense forest in the middle of the city is an amazing experience in itself. As you walk listening to birdsongs and the sound of the wind, you’ll feel your mind becoming peaceful.

Each season offers a different charm. In spring, you can enjoy cherry blossom-lined paths, in summer, cool shaded forest trails, in autumn, paths lined with red foliage, and in winter, scenery covered in white snow.

Benches and viewpoints along the trail allow you to rest and look down on Seoul city. Especially if you walk at sunset, you can enjoy a romantic atmosphere as you watch Seoul’s night view gradually light up.

When walking the trail, it’s good to wear comfortable shoes and bring water. There are benches along the way for resting, so take your time going up.

Amazing view Visiting N Seoul Tower in December 2024 was a magical experience! The winter atmosphere added a special charm to the entire area. The crisp air, festive lights, and occasional snowfall made the visit feel like a winter wonderland. The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking, with a panoramic view of Seoul beautifully lit up at night.

We took the cable car up, which was smooth and scenic, and enjoyed walking around the tower plaza, especially the famous love locks. The tower itself was warm and cozy inside, with plenty of photo spots and interactive exhibits. Perfect for both daytime and nighttime views.

N Seoul Tower a truly iconic Seoul Tourist Attraction and 100% worth the visit. We took the cable car up to the tower and paid 52500 won for 4 or us for a round trip.
We picked up a lock at the snack shop by the cable car before we went up which cost us 8000 won and came with a marker to write on it.
Walking up to the tower on the wooden steps was a blessing as the beautiful trees shaded us from the scorching sun. We managed to catch the last bit of the Traditional martial art performers by Bongsugun (beacon mound soldiers) at the Namsan Palgakjeong Pavilion at Seoul tower. Next time hope to see it all.
Once we got to the base of Seoul Tower we used our Discover Seoul Pass (Free Entry ) to go into Seoul Tower.
Everything is so well organised. The view is absolutely amazing and you have a 360 view of Seoul, there are a number of shops to get snacks and food from and you are even able to rent Hanbok.
There are thousands of locks placed on love lock bridge, people come from all over the world to do this and we made sure to place ours on.
It was an extremely hot and humid summers day as a family we enjoyed our time exploring.
The view is absolutely amazing and while we stood outside gazing at the view of Seoul the sound of the cicada beetles could be heard all around.
Definitely worth the visit and will be back soon.

Uplifting Moment The Seoul Tower looks magnificent against a backdrop of trees. There is an area where all the railings are filled with padlocks left by people from all over the world. Before reaching the tower, there is a place like a plaza, where you can enjoy the view and the fresh air. When you enter the lobby, look for a little nook with stripped green light. It's a good area for a photo shoot. At the top, you will find a gift shop with beautiful items. I found the best magnets there. Of course there are telescopes around the place. I was amazed reading how far, & in what direction, other countries are, from where the tower is. If you have been to higher towers, you may be disappointed. Bit, try to enjoy it anyway. Food outlets are a plenty. You can have your meal at the very top, if you have reservation. At around 3:00 pm, they have a program at the plaza area. It's really nice to just walk around; enjoy the view; savor the breeze & fresh air.

Seoul lookout! I visited Seoul Tower on my last days in the city. We took and uber (regular taxi), and it leave us at the bottom of the mountain to take the cable car to the top of the mountain, this can also be done by foot, and if you are for the exercise I am sure you will enjoy it. The time of the year we travel to Korea it was very hot and humid, there is no wind blowing on the top so you can feel the heat. The views are to die for you can see how massive the city is from the different look out spots on the top, you will also enjoy the lock corridor where you can leave your own and a message for those people that will come every day after you leave. We also went up on the tower and we had a great time taking pictures, and the windows you can see how far in Kilometers your country might be or even your city, must of the capitals are on the window. This place you can enjoy for 2-3 hours there is also restaurants in the bottom of the tower for your enjoyment. If you visit and take the time to come this place will not disappoint.
I bet the sundown it's great. I took a picture of my flag and the capital of my country Bogota Colombia.

Spectacular 360 degree views Though quite simply just an obervation tower and radio transmitter, this tourist attraction is something to behold. Standing 236 meters tall, the tower is the second highest point in Seoul and is considered a local landmark. A quick elevator ride to the top will take you to the observation deck which features spectacular 360 degree views of the what seemed like the entire Korean peninsula. Each window pane indicates which countries may be found depending on the direction you are facing. A highly recommended stopover on your visit to Seoul.

Good tower, worth a visit We got a taxi to the base where the cable cars leave from. Cable car queue was a few flights of stairs, but they did allow the elevator for people with special needs. Cable car was very full.
At the top do the hill, and base for the tower, there were a lot of stairs with no alternative to climbing them that I saw .
The late afternoon queue was quick to get up to the tower observation deck. Cafe choice very limited at top of tower so we ended up meeting back down the bottom on the plaza.
View was ok, visibility wasn’t too bad.
Was actually quick to view the 360 then we went back down.
Suit families. Worth a visit.

Iconic site A symbolic place associated with Seoul, it is located on top of Namsan mountain. The coolest thing about this place is that you can get there in many different ways. You can get to the top by cable car or bus, or you can enjoy walking there, cause there are several trail paths to N Tower.
If you’re fit enough I would recommend the last option cause it allows you to see amazing views of the city and enjoy the nature.
N Tower also offers the visitors a couple of restaurants and gift shops together with a wall guardians performance

Observation Tower in the middle of magnificent Seoul If you're trying to decide whether or not to visit N Seoul Tower, consider the beautiful views and scenic park surrounding it. This is not as tall as Lotte World Tower (which I also wrote a review about), but it's more central to the city, so I feel the views are just as amazing! There is a huge concourse at the base of the tower with restaurants and shops. If you do not have time or do not wish to go inside the Tower, the views from the concourse are incredible. However, the views from the Tower observation deck are even more breathtaking. You can see this Tower from just about anywhere in Seoul, which means you can see so much from the Tower. I visited at night and the city looked so magical! As far as I know, the 2 main ways to get to the Tower are hiking up Namsan Mountain or taking the Namsan cable car (I wrote a separate review about the cable car). Both ways can take some time to travel, so plan accordingly.

White and wintry day for magical and memorable photographs On 30 December 2023 morning, our tour group proceeded to Namsan Tower via cable car for panoramic view of downtown Seoul.

Namsan, N Seoul Tower fun afternoon It features in most kdramas I've watched and felt it was a must see on our trip to Seoul.
I recommend you get the busbup to the base of the tower.

We waited for the free lift up to the ticket office, saving us walking up the steep stairs. We waited nearly an hour in the sun to get the lift.

We bought tickets for the cable car yp to the tower within a few mins. Then proceeded to wait in the huge queue for over an hour.
It's deceptive, we went in no problem on the ground floor thinking it was quick but the queue started on the stairwell, up the stairs, in and around waiting rooms.

The cable car - we were wedged in.
For 1.5- 2mins or so.
It was not really worth the wait.

We had bought a return cable car ticket, but rather than wait to get the cable car back down - We got the bus down. Much quicker.

The views from outside the tower are great. Lovely cityscapes. Nice photo opportunities of the tower and also the numerous padlocks.

There are gift shops. So you can buy a padlock, write a message and attach it!

There are ticket offices at the top of namsan outside the base of tower to buy tickets up to the observeratory.
However there was an employee showing us how to scan a qr code next to the office to buy tickets online to get a discount which was helpful.

Personally I thought the views were better outside and that we didn't need to have gone up to the observeratory.

It was s a great afternoon out.

My Go-To for Seoul's Best Views & Unforgettable Sunsets! I simply cannot resist revisiting this place, time and time again. It’s a living observatory of Seoul’s ever-changing beauty, and a spot where I've created countless cherished memories with friends, family, and colleagues. Each visit in various seasons has offered a unique perspective. The view never ceases to amaze me.

Beyond the views, there’s plenty to do! The famous "Locks of Love" section, covered in countless padlocks bearing messages of affection, is always a heartwarming sight. There are also delightful cafes where you can relax with a coffee, browse unique souvenir shops for charming mementos, and even indulge in fine dining at the revolving restaurant for a truly special occasion.

- Go for sunset! It's truly worth the wait for the combined day-to-night view.
- Consider walking part of the way up Namsan Mountain for a refreshing experience amidst nature, or take the convenient Namsan Cable Car.
- Check the weather forecast for clear skies to maximize your panoramic view.

Worth doing once It's a bit pricey, but the views are a bit more extensive than the views from the base of the tower, at the Observation deck in Namsan Park. In particular, you can look in all directions, if it's not too crowded when you are there (which it wasn't, when i was there). It's a good way of getting a visual orientation to Seoul, and it gives you some idea visually of just how big a city Seoul is.

The glare from the windows means that pictures don't turn out as well as the outdoor pictures.

I probably won't go back again if I visit Seoul again, but for a first-time visit to Seoul it was worthwhile.
