A busy tourist spot Hard to find the good picture spots and when you do it’s can be very busy with many people not having many manners. So just be patient and you will get your shot. Look for look out spot 6. That’s the best one

Good walking tour of historic Seoul It was very interesting to walk through the historic neighborhood where people still live today. Apparently, there are Michelin star restaurants there as well, but we didn’t go to any. People are around with signs to remind you to be quiet as you walk through the area, since people live there. Definitely worth going. Based on the costumes we saw, it’s a popular K-drama site to visit. . I wished I was dressed up too!

Traditional housing One of the most photographed and filmed location in Seoul, even when it’s snowing. This is an actual residential area with some commercial activities, all housed within very well preserved traditional housing. Please remember to keep your voice down when visiting at night.

Interesting visit We had a pleasant experience walking thru this village. Be ready to expend some energy as the terrain can get quite hilly and challenging especially for seniors.
You see a lot of tourists and shops selling souvenirs . Get ready with the cameras for those photo ops. Lots of quaint coffee shops dot the area. Great that the weather cooperated.

Beautifully detailed traditional houses This is an area where the old Korean wooden houses have been preserved. We first visited the main, most popular, tourist street which can be quite crowded and there are tourist police to enforce the request to be quiet as people live their real lives in this district. This street is mostly residential and as we went up the hill we could admire the curved tile rooftops with their wooden supports and the decorated tiles on the wall. Again, there were lots of people in hanbok which gave the area a special feel and places where you could hire the clothes too.
We ended our visit at a beautiful little old-style wooden building cafe called Jogagbo on the main commercial road which the other street comes off where you could sit inside with all the detailed wooden features or outside under the umbrellas to watch the street life go by where we had some beer and wine. It was very pretty.

Quaint village with lots of shops and restaurants and coffee shops Very quaint Korean traditional
Village and lots of opportunity to take pictures if you can avoid all the crowds which can be difficult. The walk around the village itself is very short. Interesting enough these are houses where people actually live in so there are many signs to be quiet. Before reaching the village, which is walkable from the Gyeoungbokgung Palace, there are many restaurants, shops and coffee shops so it's quite a nice stroll

Relive the past! It is so nice to wander around and look at the beautiful homes.
I was on the outskirts on a Sunday morning and it was so peaceful and spiritual.
Last time I went it was loud and crowded.
I would highly recommend.

Picturesque charm I'm a sucker for beautiful architecture and Bukchon Hanok Village certainly delivered. The houses are really well built, charming, and full of character. Some people on here complained about this place being swarmed with tourists but my friend and I didn't experience that on a Monday afternoon. So, it might just be the day of the week. If you can visit this village on a weekday, you might just avoid the crowd. Just be respectful by keeping noise to a minimum because there are people living in these houses. Apparently, you can also rent a room or do a home stay. I might just try that the next time I visit Seoul.

It is just too crowded The area is not very large, but crowds are huge and there is not so much to see. Traditional builgings are interesting, but even on a weekday there is not much to enjoy because of there are visitors everywhere. Among all the places in Seoul we have visited, this one was the one which really dissappointed.

Architectural Wonder within Residential Area (Be Respectful of Residents) This is a residential village with absolutely amazing historic architecture. I highly recommend visiting early (around 8:00am) because there weren't any crowds then. IMPORTANT: Please be QUIET if visiting early as people do live here. When I visited, there were signs that said suggested visiting hours are between 10:00am - 8:00pm, but the key here is be quiet and respectful of property. There were a few other tourists here when I was, but everyone behaved appropriately, and there were no issues. The village itself was beautiful. The Hanok architecture is exquisite in person, and this is a very clean and well maintained neighborhood. If you walk up to higher areas and look South, you can get a wonderful view with N Seoul Tower in the background. I recommend this if you are into architecture, photography, or great views.

Picturesque, quiet and crowded A really nice area to explore on foot between two most important palaces - Changdeokgung and Gyeonbokgung.
It's an original village dating back to 14 c with restored houses.
Beware, it's a hilly area so lots of ups and downs via steep hills.
The place is very popular and gets crowded, so for better pics come earlier.

Residential Area - Remain quiet A massive tourist area but also residential are which isn’t really a good combo, I seen many people here to pose with their traditional Korean outfits on the steep slopes but you could get better pictures when you’re at the main palace which is a walk away! It’s a beautiful residential area for sure with some small stores & cafes hidden here.

Beautifully maintained by residents & the city! What was especially surprising to me was that this is an actual neighborhood with residents! I was expecting a tourist trap full of shops and restaurants, but I wasn't expecting it to be a living neighborhood. Residents do a fantastic job of maintaining the exterior of their homes (even in alleyways) and I liked having the regular reminders to "keep quiet" so as not to disturb the residents. If I had to choose a neighborhood in Seoul to live in, it would be this one. Just beautiful!

Lovely historical part of Seoul This is a beautiful residential historic area of Seoul. It is lovely to walk around and explore the streets and admire the traditional architecture. Know that the streets are very steep. Since it is a residential area, you need to be respectful of the people that live there. We came across a few shops that were fun to browse in, but mostly it is about looking at the buildings. It's worth visiting.

Stunning historic Seoul This is a must visit in Seoul.
There are streets and streets of beautiful old buildings, just a relatively short distance from downtown Seoul.
There are also cool cafes in abundance and lots of great views back to the towers if central Seoul.
It does get extremely busy so an early visit is recommended, although a lot of the cafes do not open until after 10am.

It’s feels like a scene from a Kdrama Series It’s feels like a scene from a Kdrama.
The feeling was like walking into a set of a Historic Korean Drama. It was like you’re transported in time.
There are a lot of shops to buy souvenirs. You may try the Hanbok (Traditional Clothes) as well, some shops are providing rental services.
To complete the experience, you may rent it and walk down the Hanok Village and nearby Joseon Palaces, the Gyeongbukgong and Changdeokgung Palaces to take some magnificent pictures.
It’s an actual village that people live into. It’s nested inside the city, where buildings and modern houses are on the other side.
You can see effort to maintain the vibe of the place and at the same time keep up with modernization.
As people actually live there, please me mindful not to disturb them, be respectful and responsible tourists.

Nice old traditional architecture, some people dress in rented old costumes. It is hilly and you go up and down. It is nicely maintained and clean. Good experience except the hanbok rental one The village is beautiful.. the traditional houses and the beauty around was an experience to have .. loved it. Only the one thing that was not good was the hanbok rental at "bukchon rental" experience. It was absolutely terrible.. they blamed us for not pre paying ,, rather wat happened was in a rush they forgot to take the payment and later when we reminded them to take the payment they suddenly started abusing us in Korean and blaming us for np reason .

Charming and Historic My Korean friend and I met up in Bukchon Hanok Village to start our Seoul hangout, and I don’t think we could’ve decided upon a better starting point for our adventure. The narrow, steep, curvy streets of the village that wind around ancient Korean houses and shops are an absolute pleasure to get lost in. It’s the best “maze” I’ve ever done, if you will!
The neighborhood is extremely walkable and obviously very safe. Definitely pass through en route to destinations like Gyeongbokgung Palace, which is very near. Take your time, though—there are so many boutiques, cafes, and photo ops to absorb. You could legitimately spend more than a day here and still not have touched everything. My friend, who’s lived in Seoul almost her entire life, even had no clue where we were a lot of the time! Many parts were new to her as well.
On your trip to Seoul, prioritize at least a day to strolling Bukchon Hanok Village. There will be no regrets!

Amazing Views at Sunset We took a cab to Bukchon Hanok Village, alighting near the 5th view, before sunset. Many tourists had the same idea and the place was abuzz! Korean Princess experience in Bukchon Hanok Village Recently I visited Bukchon Hanok Village with my husband and it was my first time visiting there. I was so amazed to see the beauty of Korean traditional villages . It is so different than the other modern part of Seoul. I could see the traditional side of Korea and got to know how people in old times used to stay. The main street in Bukchon Village with the namsan tower view is worth visiting and will give a worth while experience. I recommend anyone visiting Korea to have a tour of Bukchon Village and get the experience of Korean traditional house wearing Korean traditional clothes and feel like Korean Prince or Princess

Not as good as everyone said it was. Still enjoyable for a stroll. When I read all the reviews, this place was a spot everyone said was really good, a "must see". After heading to Gyeongbokgung palace, we walked over to this little neighborhood to have a look at the traditional style buildings. As its still a place where locals live, you need to be respectful when entering the area.
The buildings looked nice but its not an overwhelmingly must see attraction in its own right. It was god to get an insight into traditional housing but once you see a few of the houses, its pretty much the same.
There was a few little cafes scattered in and among the houses but for most of it, it was just a neighborhood where people lived.
We found a small gallery with a traditional room you could sit in and the people who owned it were lovely and we had a nice conversation with them.
Id say swing by if you're close for a look but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit otherwise.

Experience Joseon I visited Bukchon around early summer last year. Bukchon is famous for its traditional hanok that has maintained the view of Joseon. I experienced the life of Joseon wearing Hanbok and drinking Korean traditional tea in this place. It's hard to walk here because there are many uphill paths. But if you go up and look down, there's a wonderful view waiting. What's more, you can be a model in Bukchon-gil no matter how you take pictures. I think if you don't have enough time, it's well worth visiting just by looking at the scenery. If you want to feel the beautiful traditions of South Korea, I recommend Bukchon. The thing to be careful about is that it's a place where people live, so you have to talk quietly.

A Beautiful Glimpse into Traditional Korean Architecture I really enjoyed my visit to Bukchon Hanok Village. It’s a charming area nestled between modern Seoul neighborhoods, offering a peaceful escape and a glimpse into traditional Korean life. Charming but Skippable We visited Bukchon Hanok Village as part of our city tour with Jessie at MySeoulTrip. The area is essentially a neighbourhood filled with traditional hanoks, but it’s clear this is now a high-end residential area—evidenced by the luxury cars parked throughout.
The village is quite lovely and visually appealing, with a handful of local shops and cafes. It’s a nice place to walk around and admire the traditional architecture, but it definitely isn't a must see/visit.
Our guide mentioned that there are strict rules in place due to the increasing number of tourists, which can be disruptive to locals. It’s worth keeping that in mind and being respectful of the residents while visiting. I definitely wouldn't live there given the constant hordes of tourists.

Loved visiting the Bukchon Hanok Village I loved visiting Bukchon Hanok Village! It’s a charming and picturesque area with traditional Korean houses that offer a glimpse into the past. One thing I really appreciated was how well the village manages tourism to respect the local residents. Visiting hours are from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and entry is not allowed outside of these hours to help maintain peace in the neighbourhood. There are also volunteers or staff around during these hours to remind visitors to keep their voices down, which I found very thoughtful. It's a lovely blend of culture, beauty, and consideration.

A Tourist Trip - But Worth A Visit It's a tourist attraction rather than an authentic village - glad I don't actually live there - but still worth seeing. However beware that it's very hilly. There is a trail to follow. We went on a Monday morning and it was very busy. They suggest visiting between 10am and 5pm and not on Sundays although it's not closed off. The actual houses looked pretty well refurbished to me and most of the street looked like it was laid very recently.

Solid 3.5 rating There were some nice views here. You are in a neighborhood, so it is expected that you are quiet.
Pluses:
- information tour guides are stationed throughout to answer your questions
- interested to look at the hanok structures
- you can get a map from one of the information tour guides
NOTE:
- lots of walking uphill
- can get crowded
- one information tour guide circled on a map where to find a popular tree to take photos at (supposed great views)--never found it, and I asked two other info guides (one told us to go downhill from where we were, and the other told us to basically go back up the hill we came down). It wasn't important that we got there, but I guess that tree was harder to find than it seemed!

Underwhelming Tourist Spot This is a residential neighborhood with lots of tourists roaming through it. The traditional homes are beautiful, but many residents had signs asking people to not enter their doorways, to not knock, to speak quietly, etc. It was clear that many residents don’t like being inundated with tourists. We did stumble across a great little place called The Rainbow Bar. Amazing fruit kabobs and fresh fruit drinks:)

Nice place to walk. Great pics! Lovely bit of old Seoul to stroll through. Makes a nice pairing with the Folk Museum or the Gyeongbokgung Palace. We visited Bukchone Hanok Village with a local tour guide who also took us through the Palace and the Folk Museum. A guide isn't necessary to enjoy the Museum or the Village, although having one certainly enhances the experience. Would definitely recommend a guided tour of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Just a bunch of old buildings without the context a guide provides.

A lovely bit of history still in use… Beautiful old buildings classic architecture. Organised guides and a hidden gem in the cultural art centre, serving tea and coffees.
Fabulous.
Timed visits 10-5pm in order to protect the people living in the area who must be very patient given the high numbers of visitors.
If you stay for tea you can walk through the village after 5pm, though no noise and no photos!
Well worth a visit
Fabulous.
Timed visits 10-5pm in order to protect the people living in the area who must be very patient given the high numbers of visitors.
If you stay for tea you can walk through the village after 5pm, though no noise and no photos!

This is the place if architecture is your interest. I found the place quite interesting. However, it is a pretty big area and we have to climb some slopes, so people that are mobility challenged may want to re-consider. Looked like some parts of the village had no restricting hours to visit, but the main part is restricted to certain hours. It opened only at 10am when we were there, and there were already a lot of people waiting to get in. Admission is free, you just need to deal with the crowds. My opinion is that once you see a few, the houses start to look quite similar to each other.

Time Travel in Seoul This is a must go place if you are visit Seoul.
Pls your trip with Gyeongbukgong bcoz is a walking distance between this 2 place.
I will suggest u rent a hanbok(korean traditional attire) and travel around between this two place. so u can snap picture for your memory.
U get free to walk in without buying a ticket to enter the palace. Just walk in.
You can bargain for hour of hanbok rental with them, i got mine same price for 5hours with price of 1 hour but this i think depends on the time u visit. get your luck
I come across to another place call Ikseondong hanuk village at another part of seoul. Worth to give a visit and do check it out if u have time, especially those like to play IG. Lot of beautiful cafe hidden inside a valley. Late evening is recommended bcoz is beautiful and every part of it is instagramable.

Must-see This ancient village is a must see in Seoul. The houses date back to the Joseon Dynasty and where high ranking officials lived. About 900 of these homes have been preserved, now used as cultural centers, tea houses, craft rooms, museums, guest houses and more. It’s cool to see people coming here dressed in traditional hanbok to take photos with the amazing architecture.

Amazing Views at Sunset We took a cab to Bukchon Hanok Village, alighting near the 5th view, before sunset. Many tourists had the same idea and the place was abuzz!

Avoid late afternoons. Search for a cafe uphill. You should try to find a cafe uphill, and stay in there. The crowd outside makes the place difficult to enjoy. Avoid late afternoons. I would suggest the cafe situated on 35-35 Samcheong-dong, Jongno District, Seoul.

Residential Area - Remain quiet A massive tourist area but also residential are which isn’t really a good combo, I seen many people here to pose with their traditional Korean outfits on the steep slopes but you could get better pictures when you’re at the main palace which is a walk away!

A Beautiful Glimpse into Traditional Korean Architecture I really enjoyed my visit to Bukchon Hanok Village. It’s a charming area nestled between modern Seoul neighborhoods, offering a peaceful escape and a glimpse into traditional Korean life. There are also small museums, tea houses, and cultural centers scattered throughout the area, which added depth to the experience. I recommend going early in the morning or on a weekday to avoid crowds

If you stay for tea you can walk through the village after 5pm, though no noise and no photos!

Meeting old Korean village Place between Presidential and Changgyeonggung palace. It is old village where people still live and tourists wander. Nice old traditional architecture, some people dress in rented old costumes. It is hilly and you go up and down. It is nicely maintained and clean. Few meters further you find commercial streets with cafes, restaurants, shops. When planning, you can consider visit one of palaces around, eventually museums or galleries

Lovely historical part of Seoul This is a beautiful residential historic area of Seoul. It is lovely to walk around and explore the streets and admire the traditional architecture. Know that the streets are very steep. Since it is a residential area, you need to be respectful of the people that live there.

Bukchon is a beautiful place. but.. Don't go to the hanbok shop at the entrance of Bukchon.
I'll post a picture of the shop.
They play false tricks on foreigners.
They are very unfriendly. Be careful.

Try the village life on foot, sleepover if you can I stayed at an Airbnb here for 2 nights. Memorable. Good restaurants. Crowded in daytime, quiet and atmospheric otherwise. The churches and historic homes are interesting, as are galleries. Lots to see.

GOOD AREA FOR HIKING AND SIGHTSEEING A good place to walk through for sightseeing and exercise. Wear comfortable shoes and be able to do extensive walking up and down slopes.

A busy tourist spot Hard to find the good picture spots and when you do it’s can be very busy with many people not having many manners. So just be patient and you will get your shot. Look for look out spot 6. That’s the best one

There will be no regrets!

enjoyable but crowded bit crowded to be sure, despite many signs and wardens asking people keep the noise down many didn't,
shame as it is worth seeing when quiet maybe early morning
don't miss the observatory for a drink at the top of the hil

Good experience except the hanbok rental one The village is beautiful.. the traditional houses and the beauty around was an experience to have .. loved it. Only the one thing that was not good was the hanbok rental at "bukchon rental" experience. It was absolutely terrible.. they blamed us for not pre paying ,, rather wat happened was in a rush they forgot to take the payment and later when we reminded them to take the payment they suddenly started abusing us in Korean and blaming us for np reason .

A great delight to step back into history Truly a great delight.
Like stepping back in history with some modern touches.
A little bit hilly, and a Truly authentic village in the middle of town.

Charming Very genuine architectural area in Seoul not far from the palaces. Actually an area pretty posh of the city next to the diplomatic residences. Take your time to explore the adorable narrow streets with great houses, amazing doors and from time to time some artificial trees to color the neighborhood.

Step in Back Time Tourist can see traditional Korean houses that features a wooden structure, a tiled roof, and a courtyard. Bukchon Hanok Village is a neighbourhood that houses hundreds of hanoks dating back to the Joseon Dynasty. It's legit to visit here and take pictures
